Position Summary

This role will elevate quality as a driver of Johnson & Johnson reputation both internally and externally. It will frame a compelling narrative that engages employees throughout our company’s end-to-end value chain (from R&D through Supply Chain and Commercial) in how they contribute to driving quality and reliability for our customers, consumers, patients, health care practitioners and other stakeholders.

To succeed in this role, the candidate must maintain an enterprise view of emerging and current quality communication issues that illuminate regional, sector or enterprise-wide trends, collaborating with communication colleagues in each Johnson & Johnson sector, Employee Engagement and Supply Chain Communications (EE&SCC), External Engagement, Investor Relations and the Chief Quality Officer.

Key Responsibilities

Business and Influence Network

  • Member of extended leadership team of EE&SCC
  • Member of the Quality and Compliance Leadership Team, contributing insights and communication expertise
  • Serve as a strategic communication advisor to the Chief Quality Officer and liaison for enterprise quality information within EE&SCC, GCA and other areas of Johnson & Johnson
  • Work closely with Supply Chain and sector communication colleagues to enable robust issues management communication process and outcome, including exploration and materials development
  • Liaise with Worldwide Government Affairs & Policy, identifying and shaping opportunities to enhance our company’s ability to deliver high-quality products to those who need them, aligned with Our Credo
  • Serve on GCA teams, initiatives and special projects when quality is relevant; provide holistic view of quality issues and opportunities across Johnson & Johnson
  • Interface with Media Relations, Legal, Public Affairs, JJ Technology and External Engagement as needed.

Quality Communication Narrative/Plans

  • Develop Enterprise communication plans/narratives/messages that address proactive and reactive opportunities to strengthen, protect and defend Johnson & Johnson’s reputation for quality processes in the Supply Chain organization and across each sector.
  • Amplify our quality story and deep connection to enterprise strategy, priorities and reputational drivers; advance proactive narratives that illuminate the impact of Quality and Compliance on the customer/patient experience, strengthening the quality mindset internally and driving an outside-in perspective
  • Partner with Chief Quality Officer to develop executive platform, strategic messaging and presentation content; design organizational communication strategy for Quality and Compliance organization; advise on opportunities to activate organizational communication strategy and drive quality messaging more broadly internally and externally
  • Utilize Global Reputation Information System (GRIS) data to uncover and advance compelling insights about aspects of quality that drive Johnson & Johnson reputation with various internal and external stakeholders
  • In collaboration with Supply Chain Strategy & Issues Management leaders, work across EE&SCC to incorporate quality, safety and reliability messaging into narratives for the overall enterprise and the Supply Chain organization
  • Identify and source stories across JJSC that exemplify the mindset of quality, safety and reliability, and demonstrate positive impact on customers/patients/consumers; work across EE&SCC to develop/enhance tools and templates to amplify quality narrative at the site level and across JJSC facilities footprint

Issues Management

  • Serve as key communication liaison working with sector teams as they assess and address issues related to quality and supply (recalls, field actions, shortages, etc.) with a goal to strengthen, protect and defend J&J reputation internally and externally.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain Communication colleagues to provide input into reactive and proactive approaches; counsel on messaging and monitor progress; provide oversight and input into the development of messaging materials for media relations, customer service, investor relations and internal communication; monitor resolutions, track trends and update materials as needed; guide development of customer service-oriented messaging about Johnson & Johnson’s quality commitment
  • Escalate and manage communication planning and monitoring for enterprise-level quality issues as they emerge and mature; collaborate closely with internal colleagues and stakeholders in GCA/Enterprise Strategy & Communication, EE&SCC, sector communication teams, JJSC leaders, as well as potentially other functions and areas of the commercial business.
  • Maintain a holistic view of trends in Supply Chain quality issues communication; act as a central repository of information and insight

People Management

  • Lead and motivate a direct report, consultants, suppliers and other resources to support the development and execution of our quality strategies
  • Establish and monitor team performance and development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, conduct annual performance appraisals, and administer salary adjustments
  • Promote a culture of diversity and inclusion, high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality and the customer
  • Mentor and develop team using a supportive and collaborative approach, grounded in Our Credo

EducationQualificationsBachelor’s degree or equivalent required; Advanced degree preferred

Required

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in corporate communications or related field
  • Experience leading and influencing outside direct reporting lines
  • Key problem-solving skills in developing communication strategies and actions
  • Requires high degree of independent judgment and decision making

Preferred

  • Experience in a Fortune 500 or consulting company.

Travel

  • Up to 15% domestic and international travel required (pandemic permitting)
