Executive Director

The Executive Director holds a crucial role within EUJS’ structures. Alongside EUJS’ President, She/He is entrusted with putting to practice the vision and priorities set out by the organization’s elected leadership. The Executive Director is the head of the Secretariat, located in Brussels, employing and being responsible for the office staff. This vast and challenging portfolio contains organizational, financial, logistical and team management responsibilities. If executed appropriately, is the key to maintaining and supporting EUJS’ place at the forefront of student activism and moving forward one of Brussels’ most exciting organizations!  

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Organizational management

  • Develop operational strategies to maximize the effectiveness of the daily operation of the secretariat
  • Together with the President and the lay leadership develop yearly plans, programs and strategies
  • Coordinate tasks within the office team, assign tasks, monitor progress by using project management tools, in line with the activities/policy laid out by the elected leadership
  • Partner management with International Jewish and non-Jewish Organizations
  • Representing the organization in international forums
  • Reporting to the Board of Vice-Presidents and to the President

People management

  • Managing, developing and coordinating a team of 8 people including interns and volunteers
  • Ensuring that Secretariat team members fulfill their work requirements effectively
  • Delegating tasks and responsibilities 
  • Working closely with the EUJS President and Board Members
  • Hiring and training new team members and ensuring a professional career development plan for all staff
  • Mentoring fellows, interns and volunteers in the Secretariat
  • Working with volunteers across Europe

Financial Management

  • Fundraising, grant writing, grant seeking
  • Budgeting 
  • Preparing both external and internal financial reports
  • Using existing excel templates, developing new ones if needed
  • Keeping in touch with bookkeeper, accountant, auditor, bank
  • Using accounting tools and bank software
  • Invoicing and tracking payments

Legal management

  • Official employer of the Brussels based office
  • Writing contracts, offers and other legal documents
  • Reporting to the Belgian legal authorities (Moniteur Belge)
  • Regular audit and transparency reporting to the European Parliament and to the United Nations Human Rights Council

Event management

  • Managing 300+ participant events logistically, financially, programmatically and with regard to people management
  • Maintaining and overseeing yearly activities, seminars, trainings
  • Leading student delegations to international events together with the EUJS President

Office management

  • Coordination of the Brussels-based office – ordering materials, keeping the office organized
  • Maintenance of EUJS assets and IT equipment
  • Requesting and monitoring accreditations to the European and UN institutions

REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong background in or knowledge of Jewish communal life
  • Strong task management skills as proven by management experience
  • Capacity for organizing and directing staff
  • Be familiar with and understand the European Jewish advocacy environment
  • Be familiar with and understand EUJS and its ethos
  • Relative understanding of and interest in politics and diplomacy
  • Be comfortable with financial tasks and responsibilities 
  • Have digital skills (Microsoft office, Google Suite, MailChimp)
  • Be able to commit for a minimum of 2 years, preferably 3 years
  • Have good stress management
  • A minimum of Bachelor level, Masters appreciated
  • Excellent command of English (B2 or more)

ADDITIONAL SKILLS

  • Good command of French or Flemish is an asset
  • Be familiar with EUJS partner organizations
  • Have experience working in a youth environment
