The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a regular full-time Accounting Clerk to join our team of professionals in the Finance Division, Financial Services Department. Reporting to the Manager, Financial Reporting, in this unionized position you will assist in maintaining accounting records including letters of credit, general ledger and financial reporting files.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain and renew records for Letters of Credit and prepare related correspondence for developers and financial institutions
- Reconcile general ledger and subsidiary accounts/ledgers, prepare journal entries and correct posting errors accordingly
- Ensure that fixed asset records are accurately maintained and appropriate summaries, statistics, analyses and reports are prepared as required
- Prepare reports for filing with appropriate government agencies
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements, reports, and related analyses
- Provide coverage during periods of heavy workloads and absences for the purpose of internal control
- Assists accounts payable with year end and prepare statutory reports for accounts payable
- Performs related work as required
Qualifications:
- Completion of Grade 12, first year of a recognized accounting program year (and enrolled in the second year) plus considerable experience related to the work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
- Considerable knowledge of methods, rules and regulations applicable to Municipal accounting operations
- Sound knowledge of bookkeeping methods and procedures and of financial and fund accounting
- Ability to maintain complex records and to prepare related reports supported to factual data, tabulations and analyses
- Ability to prepare statistical and fiscal reports and to make arithmetic calculations with speed and accuracy
- Ability to communicate effectively (orally and written) with internal and external contacts

The CUPE rate of pay for this position is $30.33 – $35.68 per hour (5 steps, 2020 rates) plus benefits. The hours of work are Monday to Friday 8:30am – 4:30pm.
