OVERVIEW:

Alberta Blue Cross has an excellent opportunity for individuals to apply their superior judgment and logical decision-making skills to a variety of processes we have in place to meet the needs of both internal and external customers. The primary focus will be the use of pharmaceutical and disease state knowledge to support the determination of drug eligibility via special authorization. Special authorization is a process whereby physicians can request coverage for specific drugs for their patients.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Work independently to assess, render decisions, and determine appropriate system entry and correspondence for select requests which are more clinically complex than those handled by the department’s analysts but less complex than those processed by the clinical pharmacists, according to established guidelines and procedures.
  • Assist pharmacists in procedure updates and maintenance of drug benefit lists/supplements.
  • Assist with verification of select requests by analysts.
  • Serve as a resource for Alberta Blue Cross internal and external customers regarding special authorizations, related requests, and inquiries.
  • Support various projects and analyses using Excel, Word, Access, and other computer software.

WHAT YOU WILL HAVE:

  • Completion of a medical or Health Sciences related degree (e.g.: pharmacology).
  • Exceptional analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and pathophysiology is required. Familiarity with drug names is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the desire for continuous learning is needed to meet the expectations of this role.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality customer service is required for success in this position. This includes the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external customers.
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to manage time effectively and work with minimum supervision in a team environment.
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills in a team environment are a must.
  • Computer proficiency, particularly with Microsoft Office (i.e. Word and Excel, and preferably Access) is required.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to meet the challenges of heavy workloads and frequent change.

This position will remain open until a suitable candidate is selected.

Alberta Blue Cross® is an inclusive employer committed to a workplace that reflects the diversity of the communities we serve. We empower and are advocates for our employees by welcoming, respecting and valuing their unique perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences.

We offer a competitive salary and benefits package and the opportunity to work in an innovative, high-energy team-focused environment. If you have the qualifications we are looking for, please apply.
