Under the supervision of the Mail Room Supervisor, the Clerk A is responsible for sorting and separating inter-office and metered mail to facilitate effective distribution of mail to all City departments and to Canada Post.
As the Clerk A, you will:

Deliver and pick up mail for departments located in the Civic Centre complex on a daily scheduled basis.

Sort and separate inter-office and metered mail.
-
Assist sorting of general mail received from Canada Post.

Deliver printed material produced by the Internal Printing Services Area to any location within the Civic Centre “Campus” area as required.

Meter outgoing mail by operating mail and postage metering equipment, weighing and applying the proper postage; charging the correct department code and having a good knowledge of postal standards and regulations.

Redirect incoming time sensitive, signature security mail and confidential mail.

Use the City Corporate Directory to redirect mail received with insufficient information.

Assist in listing outgoing Registered Mail using an Excel spreadsheet.

Monitor meter machine operation by filling levels of water, postage tape and ink as required.

Deliver Water bills, using a two-wheel cart, on a daily basis.

Performs other duties consistent with the classification, as assigned.
Your education and qualifications include:
-
High school graduation or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
-
Ability to record and balance daily postage records.
-
Mechanical aptitude is required to operate meter mailing or similar equipment.

Excellent customer service.
-
Excellent organizational skills, including the demonstrated ability to appropriately prioritize workload and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.

Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, and external contacts, in accordance with the Respectful Workplace Standard.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Word (basic level), Excel and Outlook.

Basic knowledge of the PeopleSoft HR application would be an asset.

Ability to obtain thorough knowledge of Canada Post Standards and Procedures within 3 months.
Conditions of employment:

The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.

A Police Information Check satisfactory to the employer will be required from the successful candidate, at their expense.

Physically able to lift packages weighing from 10 to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
