Responsibilities
Reporting to the Manager, Cancer and Palliative Care Services. This is a pivotal clerical position, contributing to the efficient, coordinated flow of patients, documents, charts and information within the Palliative Care Service. This position requires a mastery of general office and organizational skills to ensure the overall efficiency of the Palliative Care Services, with a specific focus on computer-based data entry, chart prep, CWS clinical bookings and transcription.
Qualifications
- Graduate of a recognized Business/Secretarial/Office Information Technology or Bachelor of Information Systems Program, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Medical Terminology Course required
- Previous secretarial experience an asset
- Computer training or experience with various office and business software
- Demonstrated leadership abilities
- Ability to work in a self-directed environment and also effectively within an interdisciplinary team
- Working knowledge and proficiency with a variety of computer software and programs
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills (direct interaction with volunteers, staff and public)
- Excellent organizational and prioritizing skills

- Willingness to learn Provincial Palliative care Database, OPIS and SHARE
- Knowledge and experience in volunteer environment and community partnership
- Adaptable to change and is flexible to accommodate the expectations of the position
- Willingness to learn new computer programming
- Advanced working knowledge and proficiency with a variety of computer software applications, specifically Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
- Knowledge of inventory control and record keeping an asset
- Commitment to maintain and protect patient, client, and personal safety on an ongoing basis
- Commitment to confidentiality and privacy of NSHA patients and clients
- Annually access the training and education on patient, client and personal safety made available by NSHA
