Recruitment Officer – International – York University

Purpose:
The Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies (LA&PS) is the largest Faculty at York University with over 24,000 undergraduate and graduate students, and almost 100 programs delivered through 25 Departments, Schools and Colleges, plus the IBM Markham Learning Site. Through innovative course design, diverse experiential education and learning opportunities, and a supportive community environment, our students receive the education they need to create big ideas that have an impact on the world.Reporting to the Assistant Director, Student Recruitment, the Recruitment Officer will be responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of LA&PS’s recruitment and admissions strategies for international students and domestic students outside Ontario. The incumbent will act as primary contact for all prospective international students interested in LA&PS and for guiding those students through the recruitment cycle. The incumbent will also suggest new initiatives, arrange and coordinate special LA&PS-related activities as well as smaller scale targeted events for outreach, recruitment, conversion and transition of LA&PS students. The incumbent will be responsible for identifying and building relationships with schools and institution overseas. Tracks expenditures and maintains contact databases. Maintains familiarity with LA&PS’s suite of programs and developments in the field of related careers. Collaborates with the Division of Students on all functions to ensure LA&PS’ activities and processes are aligned with University strategies and objectives. Ensures the Division of Students is made aware of all visits, functions, and activities for LA&PS.The Recruitment Officer will also support the vision, mission, values and strategic direction of the Faculty of LA&PS and York University, and contribute to a positive, supportive and student-focused team environment of high performance, respect, trust, collaboration and continuous improvement, embraces diversity and fosters inclusion.

Education:
University degree in a relevant field or an equivalent of 4 years recent relevant experience (defined as within the last five years) working in a University setting and performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below.

Experience:
Two (2) years recent and related experience (e.g. educational recruitment in an academic environment, making effective presentations and/or public speaking, program/project administration, etc.) including marketing, sales, advising/counselling, and answering detailed/complex enquiries in a student or customer service area. Experience with international recruitment and experience working with CRM systems would be an asset.

  • Educational recruitment experience required.
  • Knowledge of Ontario university system admissions criteria, university programs and familiarity with post-secondary educational systems.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills to make effective presentations.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret and present information Advising/counselling skills: ability to elicit accurate information, provide regulatory information and answer detailed enquiries in a clear and concise manner.
  • Effective interpersonal and public relations skills.
  • Knowledge and sensitivity to cultural issues.
  • Tact and diplomacy essential.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Exercises good judgement, initiative, and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills including ability to work independently, meet deadlines, coordinate several projects/programs simultaneously in response to changing/conflicting priorities.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and working effectively under pressure of high volume.
  • Training and providing work direction to others.
  • Intermediate ability in MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint with introductory skills and knowledge of MS Access including the ability to run queries from an established database.
  • Adept at learning new technology programs.
