The Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety has a career opportunity for an innovative cultural and spiritual leader, who is client-service oriented and a positive role model to promote growth as a Cultural and Community Coordinator at Kilburn Hall Youth Centre. We are seeking an individual to develop, coordinate, implement and maintain the facilitys cultural and chaplaincy services and liaise with community stakeholders/partners to provide positive leadership and direction. This position has been designated in accordance with the PSC/SGEU Collective Agreements Employment Equity Program, for qualified candidates who self-declare in writing that they are persons of Aboriginal Ancestry.

Kilburn Hall Youth Centre is a youth facility located in Saskatoon. It provides developmental programs and residential custody services to secure and open custody youth ages 12 – 18, subject to provisions of The Youth Criminal Justice Act. We are seeking a supportive, empathetic, respectful individual to coordinate cultural services and programs for offenders.

As a Cultural and Community Coordinator, you will report to the Director of Programs. You will develop static and dynamic security processes that bridge with cultural activities in the facility and community. In partnership with the Director of Indigenous and Chaplaincy Services, you will develop, implement facilitate and coordinate cultural and spiritual programming that enhances and promotes Indigenous values, traditions, and beliefs. As a member of a provincial team, you will provide cultural and spiritual advice, education and expertise in policy and program development and will lead, guide, direct and support staff and clients in cultural awareness and tradition. We are seeking a candidate who has outstanding interpersonal and communication skills in order to develop and maintain professional relationships with a diverse range of individuals and community stakeholders; someone who can lead the development and implementation of in-centre training, community partnerships and develop/maintain meaningful service agreements. Your responsibilities will also include human resource management, budget management, ongoing identification/recruitment/supervision of Cultural advisors, elders, practicum students and volunteers, policy development and case management.

The ability to speak an Indigenous language would be an asset in this position. A strong emphasis on the understanding and practice of Indigenous culture is required to properly address program requirements. You must have knowledge of Indigenous people, community resources and services; Cultural protocols and beliefs; and indicators and dynamics of addictions, poverty, family relationships, abuse and neglect and the history that impacts on Indigenous people, families and communities. You must have experience assessing, developing, maintaining, implementing and adjusting case plans in collaboration with clients and others to establish goals and meet client needs. The successful completion of a nine-week training program is required.

In this position, you must model and demonstrate a commitment to the Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety mandate to provide a fair justice system that upholds the law and protects the rights of all individuals in Saskatchewan, promotes safe and secure communities, and provides legal and justice policy advice to assist government.
