Research Associate
We are looking for a highly motivated and proactive Research Associate to join our newly established Business Unit – Traitomic. At Traitomic, we are using a new generation of natural strain and crop improvement techniques, to tailor non-brewing crops and microbes to the specific needs of our customers or consumers with unprecedented speed and specificity.
As our Research Associate, you will be involved in and contribute to all practical aspects of delivering exciting new traits through our crop improvement pipeline. You will be involved in and contribute to all practical aspects of this work: from molecular screens to field trials, as well as planning and executing harvest and growing strategies for various conventional and unconventional crops.
While the perfect candidate is passionate about plants, the role also presents a unique opportunity to closely work with and support our microbial strain improvement pipeline. Consequently, we are looking for a person that is motivated by a job that includes a broad range of activities and has a can-do mentality.

What you’ll be doing
You will have a diverse role with a balanced mix of time spend in the office at your desk, running experiments in the lab, and time spend outside with our plants.
As Research Associate you will be involved in and/or responsible for:
Independently perform DNA extractions, PCR applications and sequencing
Handling and processing of grains and plant material from various crops
Provide care for plants growing in a greenhouse, growth chamber or field locations
Conduct experiments according to SOPs
Assist in optimizing protocols for the molecular analysis of plants and microbes
Accurately document all experimental procedures and results
Provide support to junior members and temporary staff
Maintain an organized and safe working environment
What we’re looking for
We expect you to have an education as MSc in molecular biology, microbiology, agriculture or a related field. Preferably combined with 1-2 years’ industry experience. However, we also welcome candidates with less experience who have a relevant MSc education and a passion for more practical work such as speaking with farmers, caring for plants etc.
To be more specific, we are looking for a colleague who has/is:
Experience in high-throughput sample handling, preparation and data analysis
Familiarity with plant genomes, sequence alignments, primer designs and general sequence analysis
Some relevant work experience in an industrial or academic laboratory setting
Practical experience in handling plants is a plus
Good basic computer skills, e.g. with the Office work package are required
Confident to work in a team but also independently – and always take full ownership of your tasks
Well-organized, efficient, and highly self-motivated
A great colleague and has good communication skill
Farming experience or a farming background giving you a good understanding of agriculture would be a benefit in this role (although it’s not a requirement).
