Ethicon is recruiting for a Staff Embedded Software Engineer, Advanced Imaging and Visualization R&D, located in Cincinnati, OH, Santa Clara, CA, or Copenhagen, Denmark sites. Remote work is an option, but travel to either Cincinnati, OH, Santa Clara, CA, Pittsburgh, PA is required approximately every 4-6 weeks.

The Staff Embedded Software Engineer, Advanced Imaging R&D, will be driving early to mid-stage projects feasibility to charter and next steps in the stage-gate process, more particularly develop and embody imaging algorithms and processing steps into an API that will work closely with underlying hardware, to process surgical imaging and achieve speed, quality and unparalleled informative, surgical visualization. More generally, Staff Engineer will be a key contributor to help advance our Advanced Imaging product development pipeline.

  • Software development and maintenance activities for image analysis and acquisition software packages.
  • Lead development, debugging, testing, deployment, maintenance, and all phases of the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Design and implement new embedded software based on future product requirements, propose hardware, software and system requirements for newly developed applications by examining design criteria and system feasibility.
  • Design and develop custom solutions in embedded C and/or C++. Maintain and improve existing embedded software packages.
  • Develop and test embedded firmware using debuggers, emulators, simulators, and logic analyzers as needed. Test code on the target application board.
  • Key contributor in team-based creation of requirements, specifications, architecture and design of final product.
  • Work with product engineering team to provide access to software, system and documentation to facilitate product testing and release.
  • Maintain software documentation and resources by creating and maintaining release notes, system specifications and design documentation.
  • Collaborate with internal engineering teams and external partners (as needed) to define and execute functional and performance testing as well as debugging.
  • Provide software release packages with appropriate release notes and documentation that aids quality assurance in the testing of the overall systems.
  • Effectively communicate opportunities, status, risks, and recommendations to peers and project partners.

The base pay range for this position is $101,500 to $142,000.

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/ performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.

Qualifications


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Software/Computer/Electrical Engineering or a related science/engineering degree
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated experience with C and/or C++ design, development, and troubleshooting
  • Ability to architect systems and hardware
  • Familiar with Source Code Control, build and release management (Git, Subversion etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • 10-20% travel

Preferences/Assets:

  • Advanced Degree
  • 3+ years of experience in embedded systems, Linux preferred
  • Experience with development of Imaging Software/Digital Image Processing
  • Familiarity with standard image signal processing (ISP) pipelines
  • Familiarity with FPGA software development (Xilinx, Intel)
  • Experience with CUDA/GPU development
  • Experience with OpenCV
  • Track record in R&D delivering solutions within a complex system architecture
  • Knowledge/experience with agile development process (SCRUM)
  • Experience with design control activities and design history file implementation per FDA & CE mark standards for medical devices
