Job Description

A Biocurator at PierianDx will be part of our Annotation team that develops the world’s most clinically robust genomic knowledgebase. Biocurators are skilled scientists with strong molecular biology and cancer biology backgrounds who will extract, interpret and synthesize data from a variety of sources into logical rules that form the core of our clinical genomic knowledgebase. Their imprint on the knowledgebase will power medical insights for doctors and patients at clinical molecular laboratories around the world.

Qualification

Fresh PhD’s or MSc with 3-4 years experience

Required Experience and Skills

• Masters in any field of biology (molecular biology, genetics, microbiology, bioinformatics etc.)
• Strong basic genetics and molecular biology knowledge including basic understanding of cancer biology and signaling pathways
• Genetic and molecular understanding of human disease
• Good understanding of genomic databases and their annotations (For example GenBank, RefSeq, dbSNP, etc)
• Proficiency in communicating and understanding of genetic variant details
• Previous experience as an experimental scientist is a big plus
• Proactive and inquisitive approach, strong attention to detail and collaborative attitude to work with multi-disciplinary teams
• An enthusiastic “can-do” mentality with leadership skills, a dedicated team-worker, having good verbal and written communication skills

Good to have

• Understanding of Genomic Data Analysis and Biostatistics
• Experience in handling/processing large data (files systems or db)
• Experience in scientific scripting languages: Perl, R, or Python
• Ability of working in UNIX environment
• Experience in using Next Generation Sequencing tools

Responsibilities

• Execute tasks with ownership and responsibility
• Evaluate peer-reviewed experimental research for annotation
• Collect and integrate data from scientific literature published by clinical and human genome research groups
• Documenting the effects of genomic variants and the association with disease, using controlled vocabularies, ontologies and established guidelines
• Maintain specifications and monitor day-to-day operations of the literature searching and triage pipelines and various error-checking processes
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams of subject matter experts, engineers and bioinformaticians to develop and document product and testing strategies
