Senior System Engineer Quality & Reliability

In this role, you have the opportunity to
As Senior System Engineering Expert in Quality and Reliability you are responsible for the realization and management of product quality and reliability targets in product creation projects. These projects can cover every phase of the product life cycle, e.g. advanced development, product development, launch and/or sustaining.

You will be mainly involved in designing in, proving and improving quality, reliability and regulatory (e.g. safety, environmental, EMC) aspects in healthcare products and associated production processes. In your role, you will define and manage the quality and reliability strategy in a professional way and take responsibility for execution and delivery of results. You will maintain and develop knowledge and expertise resulting in service propositions that are attractive to your customers.

You are responsible for

  • Apply and facilitate a System Engineering approach with focus on Design for Quality, Reliability, Serviceability, Testing (DfX) in innovative healthcare projects

  • Work with project leaders, system architects and lead engineers to identify and manage Quality and Reliability requirements

  • Develop actionable quality management plans to release products and processes according to specified quality levels

  • Take ownership in design risk management activities, e.g. set up the risk management plan, drive e.g. user, design or process FMEA processes, fault tree analysis, follow up design controls, …

  • Define and manage design, parameter and/or process optimization, verification and validation test activities

  • Use established Business Excellence methodologies such as DfSS, DMAIC, Statistical Engineering (Shainin tools), PDCA, Kaizen events, SPC, 8D …

  • Provide data driven expert opinion on root cause analysis of failure modes or in support of design decisions

  • Liaise with other expert centers, lab facilities to execute reliability investigations and verification activities

  • Provide guidance or support management of design transfer activities, supply chain quality planning, control and improvement

  • Train and coach best practices for quality, reliability and requirements engineering globally in Philips to R&D project teams or organizations to enhance capability maturity

  • Identify improvement opportunities in Philips businesses and develop actionable proposals and plans to address these

You are a part of

The Product Quality & Reliability team is part of Reliability Solutions service of Philips Innovation Services and is a dynamic group of more than 30 architects and system engineers in the field of Reliability and Quality engineering. All are DfSS Green belt or Black Belt, active in designing in or improving quality and reliability of complex, innovative solutions and processes and bring these to the market. We serve a wide and global network of customers consisting of internal Philips businesses as well as external high tech and healthcare companies. 

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience

  • A PhD or Masters (MSc) degree in Physics, Electrical, or Electronic Engineering with minimum 10 years of experience in a business product development and preferably manufacturing or service environment

  • A leader by example with deep understanding of Systems Engineering methodology and a proven track record in End-to-End quality, reliability and serviceability planning, control and improvement in complex systems

  • You are customer focused, have excellent consultancy skills and have a natural ability to connect with various business stakeholders

  • You take ownership to deliver high quality output while acting with sense of urgency

  • You provide direction and leadership to define actionable strategies and follow actions through till completion

  • You balance analytical and conceptual thinking with deep physical insight and attention to detail as applicable

  • You have excellent reporting, documentation and good project management skills

  • You are agile and energized by new challenges, environments and team dynamics

  • You eagerly identify improvement opportunities at project and/or organizational level, and are capable of converting these in successful changes

  • You display high levels of integrity and always act as a team player

  • You effectively manage stress and combinations of diverse assignments

  • You like to travel as a substantial part of the job, but are equally effective in working and connecting globally and remotely

  • You are digitally skilled with system engineering tools, e.g. Minitab, JMP, Reliasoft, Doors, UML/SysML, PTC, Windchill, …

  • You have the discipline to work according to Quality Management System requirements, working experience in a regulated environment or a medical device company is a pro
