Conservator (The Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Collection) – Victoria and Albert Museum

The V&A is looking for an Objects Conservator (focus on objects made of gold, silver, micromosaics, gold boxes, painted enamels, and hardstone mosaics, or pietre dure) to join its vibrant Conservation team.

The V&A holds a collection of over 2.3 million objects that document 5,000 years of human creativity from across six continents. It holds many of UK’s designated National Collections, including sculpture, ceramics, metalwork, textiles and furniture, including extensive collections of prints, drawings, posters, photographs and portrait miniatures. It is also home to the National Art Library, which holds the UK’s most comprehensive public reference library for the fine and decorative arts. The Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert collection has been a vibrant and much-loved part of the V&A since 2008 with its own permanent galleries and changing displays. The collection includes the Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Collection of gold, silver, micromosaics, gold boxes, painted enamel miniatures, and hardstone mosaics, or pietre dure. A large loan from across the V&A collections is in preparation and will require a dedicated conservator to lead and oversee all conservation aspects of the project until the exhibition opens in 2023.

The Conservator (The Rosalinde & Arthur Gilbert Collection) is a project-based post funded by The Gilbert Trust for the Arts. You will support the care and conservation of The Rosalinde & Arthur Gilbert Collection, with focus on an upcoming international loan. You will have practical experience in the conservation of multimedia objects, specifically metals and hardstones and a good understanding of scientific analysis and techniques.
