YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

WHAT YOU’LL DO

This is a whole time junior clinical fellow post. Part time or job share applicants will be considered for those candidates unable to work full time for personal reasons. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job description will be discussed in consultation with the department.

The principal duties of the posts will be:

  1. To undertake care of haematology day case patients and ambulatory care patients under the supervision of the haematology senior medical teams. The post holder will work across all clinical teams, specifically:
    1. Acute leukaemia and allogeneic stem cell transplant
    2. Lymphoma and lymphoid malignancy including autologous stem cell transplants
    3. Myeloma, myeloid and general haematology including autologous stem cell transplants
    4. Haemostasis, thrombosis and immune haematology
    5. Red cell haematology and transfusion

2. To undertake daily or as needed patient reviews for patients attending for ambulatory or day care treatments including co-ordination and review of investigations

  1. To prescribe treatments including blood products, supportive care including non-SACT (systemic anti cancer therapy) infusions, fluids, electrolytes and symptomatic therapies
  1. To undertake ad hoc clinical assessments as needed for patients attending for treatment
  1. Opportunity to gain experience in undertaking procedures relevant to haematology, including bone marrow biopsy and tunnelled central catheter removal.
  1. To refer to other specialists as required in order to provide optimal patient care
  1. To undertake care of patients undergoing clinical trials, showing evidence of training and understanding of Good Clinical Practice. Where required, appropriate training in clinical trial protocols will be provided
  1. To engage in the department’s clinical governance programme, including, for example, audit, clinic incident reporting and quality meetings.
  1. Routine attendance at the general haematology clinic and to subspecialty clinics where time permits and subject to the interests and experience of the postholder
  1. If interested, to participate in the collection and analysis of local data with a view to preparing and submitting papers for publication.

The post holder will work alongside an experienced specialty doctor within a supportive, approachable team including day ward nurses, advanced clinical practitioners, clinical nurse specialists and the wider subspecialty medical teams. All patient care is supervised by subspecialty consultants.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

The post is open to individuals with:

  • Internal Medicine experience for at least 12 months, OR Clinical Haematology experience for at least 6 months

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Appointment will be made under local contractual terms and conditions of service for Trust appointed (non-training fellow doctors and dentists).

Successful candidates will have an educational framework equivalent to training grade doctors, and there will be a named educational supervisor assigned at the start of the post. The opportunity for Continued Professional Development (CPD) is highly supported and encouraged by the Trust, with options available to take study leave. All licensed doctors must meet the GMC requirements for revalidation and there will be an annual appraisal to support this process.

Grades for Trust appointed (non-training) fellows will be paid a basic salary at a nodal pay point linked to the grade, at the rate set out in the National Medical and Dental pay circular. Basic salary detailed below plus any additional remuneration (as applicable) for hours set out in the doctors work schedule (e.g. additional hours, weekend allowance, and any hours which attract enhanced pay)

Please note that GMC registration (with a licence to practice) and right to work in the UK are essential for this role.  Successful applicants will already have GMC registration or will be able to demonstrate they are eligible.  Applicants requiring Tier 2 sponsorship should ensure they meet the Home Office application criteria prior to submitting an application.
