Lead Data Engineer – Logikk

We are working with a start-up that has just secured a large amount of funding to expand its team and product range. It is looking for a Data Engineering Technical Lead for its office in Boston, MA. The salary range is between $100-150k plus a 20% bonus with healthcare, dental and 401K (5%).

The company have created a big data software that allows clients to connect multiple sources of internal and 3rd party data to get a full 360° view of the customer. The data is then presented using various data visualisation tools and techniques. It allows the clients to make better decisions based on actionable data. It is being put to use in finance to detect financial crime, government to detect fraud and marketing to get a full view of the customer (to name a few).

As new clients are onboarded, you and your team will build a custom platform for them to harness the power of the product. This can be an initial POC and then into production. Typical engagements can range from 4 weeks – 6 months, depending on the scope of the project. For the project, you might be required on the client site for a period of time but in a post-covid world it is hard to say if this is still necessary, it will depend on the client needs.

As a Technical Lead (5yrs+ xp), you will be responsible for 50% coding and 50% leading the team direction on projects. You will need to be a hands-on coder ideally with Scala, but other functional programming languages will also be considered (as long as you are willing to learn Scala). Spark is used for data processing so experience with this is also needed. As a TL, you should be comfortable dealing with internal and external stakeholders, being able to hold high-level conversations and be adept at explaining to a non-technical audience. You should have at the very least mentored others but ideally, lead a small team previously.

Ideally, you will have experience with implementation and systems integration as well as building data processing pipelines (traditional ETL but also analytical pipeline would be beneficial). Above all, you must be able to solve problems and be a solution finder. Our client uses a GCP to host its platform, but clients have a whole host of different systems, both on-prem and distributed. You should be familiar with both.

Technical essentials:

·      Solid functional programming, ideally Scala

·      Spark

·      Distributed computing experience (Cloud/Hadoop)

That’s it. Everything else is nice to have. At the end of the day, a good engineer is a good engineer, and you can pick up the rest of the tooling along the way.
